Secret to How I Learned to Calculate My BMI

As you may already know, more than 40% of all Americans are obese. It should come as no surprise that many people in the United States and other countries around the world are in an overweight condition due to a number of factors, one of which is the fact that, like myself, they are unsure of how to figure out what their body mass index (bmi) number is and more importantly, what it should be.

Bmi Tests

I learned how to calculate my bmi and I am going to share the simple but failproof way that I learned how to make this important calculation. But first let me say that understanding how to come up with this number is actually just a part of the equation which is knowlege plus action. It is no enough just to know how to come up with the number because chances are if you are like me, you will discover the same thing that I did: when I figured out how to calculate my bmi, I learned that it was imperative to start a diet and exercise regimen to bring my number down into the acceptable range.

Calculate My Bmi

Learning to calculate my bmi was not difficult so if you have been thinking that it takes a rocket scientist degree, you can take a deep breath and relax. The way that you make the calculation is to take several body factors and put them together into a computation. First, it is important to understand that making this calculation is a means that will provide you with an accurate measurement of how much body fat you are carrying based on your height and weight. It should also be noted that this calculation is for adult men and women.

I learned to calculate my bmi both in the standard and metric measures. You will need to know your height in feet and inches and your weght in pounds if you want to use the standard measuring method or your height or the metric equivalents. To calculate my bmi, I multiplied my height in inches by my height in inches and divided that by my weight in pounds. I went on to calculate my bmi by multiplying the number I came up with by 703. By completing the math, I was able to calculate my bmi and learn that my bmi was greater than 30!

A normal bmi number is 18.5 to 24.9. An overweight bmi number is 25 to 29.9. Anything over 30 is obese. Now that you have my secret to figuring out your bmi, you can do the math and learn what your number is. If you are overweight, there is no time like the present to take control of your diet, start exercising and get your bmi number down to a normal one.
